Since last Wednesday I've been working on a deadline to get edits to my publisher. And sadly that meant I didn't have time to blog. I missed Thursday, and I'm very late with this posting.

Now, I'd promise that will never happen again, but I can't do that. If there's one thing I've learned is sometimes I have no control over my time. Wait a minute, of course I'm free to choose where I devote my time, but other factors come into play. What I need is a reboot on my organizing skills.

I know I can write blog posts ahead of time, but lately I just have been unable to carve the time out of my schedule to do even that.

SOOO I'm asking you for advice. What  helps you organize your time so you can do all the things you want to? Seriously, I've love to know.

  1. I write it down and stick to it! I write down all the obligations and events that must be done-work, family things, etc.- and then in the extra spaces I fill in whatever I else I want to do. I don't know any other way to do it- writing it down so I have a more concrete view of what my days look like, and then sticking to it!

    1. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to give it a try.

  2. I've tried, but it just never seem to work out. So generally I skip a day of blogging and apologize or, if it's even busier than that, I announce a short break and finish what I need to do.

Best of luck with your edits!

    1. I wish I would have thought of that. From now on, I'll do that if it becomes impossible to write something. Thanks.

  3. My serious advice is, "Don't sweat the small stuff." It's hard to fit everything in, but you can only do what you can do. The world won't end if you're late on something. And don't forget to take time for YOU! You're the most important asset you have. :-)

    1. Lexa, thank you. You're right. I do tend to sweat the small stuff. It's nice to be reminded.

  4. I had to scale back on blog posts (from daily to a few days per week) because I needed more time for writing. I let the readers know what I was doing ahead of time and I even keep a Google calendar on my blog so they knew which days I will post and which I won't. I then spend 1-2 hours on the weekend putting together my blog posts for the upcoming week--it's the only thing that seems to work for me.

Do we get another suspense book? Looking forward to it.

    1. MK,
Pre-posting blogs helps a lot. I used to do that, but then my weekends are more complicated then they used to be. BUT I'm going to go back to it and see if I can work around everything and everyone. Thanks!

  5. This topic is high on my list, too. Nothing works for me for very long. I do best by writing first thing in the mornings and working on blogs in the afternoons here lately because I have a lot of blogging stuff coming up.

I make lists and they're always overflowing. So I number things 1, 2, or 3 - no more - and this groups them in order of importance. Some days I don't even get the #1's done.

    1. Carol,
I seem to be in the same boat as to nothing works for me very long either. I guess I just need to reboot every once in a while. Thanks!
